Good morning, Forsyth County,

I hope the candy bowl is stocked and the pumpkins are carved, because Halloween weekend is almost here. Of course, if you’ve already opened the candy “just to try a piece,” there’s still time for another trip to the store.

This weekend is shaping up to be a busy one around Forsyth County. With fall festivals, trunk-or-treats, concerts, and a few good scares, there are plenty of reasons to get the family out of the house. The hardest part might be deciding how much you can fit in before everyone needs a nap.

There’s plenty happening for those whose trick-or-treating days are behind them, too. Catch some live music, browse the farmers market, or settle in for a Sunday afternoon on the green. You don’t need a costume to enjoy the weekend.

The Face Cream Proven to Boost Collagen by 28%*

If your skin feels dryer than it used to, it might not just be a dehydration issue. Here’s why: As skin ages, it loses collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, and barrier integrity—the density it needs to hold onto moisture. This thinner, weaker skin struggles to stay hydrated, no matter how much water you drink or moisturizer you apply.

Most creams just temporarily hydrate the skin’s surface, but OneSkin’s new OS-01 FACE RICH CREAM works differently—delivering deep hydration while rebuilding skin’s ability to retain moisture at the cellular level. Powered by a Dual-Phase Hydration System, it combines potent bioactive humectants with OneSkin’s proprietary OS-01 Peptide™ to fortify the skin barrier and replenish collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. OS-01 FACE RICH CREAM is scientifically proven in lab studies to increase skin’s measured collagen by +28% and promote elastin production by +108%—for lasting hydration, visible firmness, and more resilient skin over time.*

THE DIGEST

Why Cumming’s Tap Water Has an Earthy Aftertaste

Some Cumming households and restaurants are noticing an earthy flavor in their drinking water, and Lake Lanier’s seasonal changes are behind it. City officials say naturally occurring compounds called geosmin and MIB are responsible for the taste and smell, while the water continues to meet state and federal safety standards. Those compounds can register on the human palate at just a few parts per trillion, explaining why clear water can still taste unpleasant. They are produced by microorganisms found in lakes and soil, and conventional treatment does not always eliminate every trace. Chilling drinking water or using an activated-carbon filter may make the flavor less noticeable. The seasonal problem can linger for weeks, with improvement expected as lake conditions settle later in the fall.

Put Your Cause in Lights Above Cumming

Cumming’s water tower is opening its 2027 calendar to local causes. Charitable organizations and nonprofits can now request colored lighting on the landmark beside Ga. 400 at Exit 14, giving their awareness campaigns a prominent place above town. The application allows up to three colors and a maximum of five consecutive dates. Groups seeking recognition in different months must submit a separate form for each month, and alternate dates can help when the calendar fills up. Even organizations featured in previous years must apply again. City staff expect to distribute the finalized schedule by the end of December, with requests subject to availability. Completed forms can be emailed to Crystal Ledford at [email protected] or mailed to her attention at Cumming City Hall, 100 Main Street, Cumming, GA 30040.

Beaver’s Golf Tournament Sends More Than $126,000 to Local Charities

A day on the golf course produced more than $126,000 for four local charities at Beaver Toyota and Beaver Mazda’s fifth annual charity tournament. Held October 12 at Hawks Ridge Golf Club, the outing brought dealership employees, business partners and nonprofit representatives together to support Forsyth County organizations. The event combined golf with sponsorships and auctions, with organizers emphasizing support for young people and residents facing difficult circumstances. The dealerships have also introduced paid volunteer time, giving employees up to 40 hours a year to serve causes they care about. General manager Patrick Abad described the program during an automotive industry interview following the tournament. Across the dealerships’ 330 employees, that allowance could provide as many as 13,200 paid volunteer hours annually if fully used.
