Good morning, Forsyth County.

One thing that took me a long time to really appreciate is how much community matters. For a while, especially during COVID, it felt like that sense of community got weaker almost everywhere. People had a reason to stay home, keep to themselves, and slowly drift away from the places and events that once brought neighbors together. Even now, some of that still seems to linger. It is easier than ever to live in a growing county like Forsyth without really feeling connected to it.

That is one of the big reasons I started the Forsyth Flyer. I want this to be more than a list of headlines and events. I want it to help people feel more plugged in to the place they call home. Forsyth County has a lot going on, from new businesses and local gatherings to school updates, road projects, and the everyday stories that shape the community. But that local culture only stays strong when people show up, pay attention, and take part in it. My hope is that the Flyer helps make that a little easier.

Cumming cuts ribbon on new police precinct at City Center

Mayor Troy Brumbalow officially opened the City of Cumming's new police department and municipal court building Friday afternoon, April 24, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Cumming City Center. The new precinct, previewed in last week's edition, replaces the department's longtime Veterans Memorial Boulevard home and consolidates Cumming Police, Municipal Court, and related services in one modern facility on Canton Road. The ceremony paused to honor fallen deputies before officials turned the key. Forsyth County resident and gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson also spoke at the event. The new building is open and operational.

County-wide burn ban now in effect

The Forsyth County Fire Department issued a county-wide burn ban effective Friday, April 24, prohibiting open outdoor burning until further notice. Officials cited dry conditions across North Georgia and active wildfire risk as the basis for the order. Residents should not burn yard debris, brush, or other materials until the ban is lifted. Rain is expected midweek, but ongoing drought conditions mean the ban will likely remain in effect for some time. Updates from the Forsyth County Fire Department will be posted at forsythco.com and on the department's official channels.
