TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Forsyth County.
If you stepped outside this morning, you probably felt that warm, almost spring-like air rolling in. It's mid-February and we're flirting with the mid-70s. A little preview of the warmer days ahead. I found myself walking through the Cumming City Center this week and marveling at how much our community continues to evolve while still holding on to the small-town character that makes this place feel like home.
Of course, don't get too comfortable. Mother Nature has a sense of humor. By Sunday we're looking at highs in the 50s and a low of 28. That's Georgia for you. Shorts on Thursday, jacket on Sunday. If you've got outdoor plans this weekend, Saturday morning might be a little soggy, but Sunday should be clear and crisp. Perfect excuse to hit the Cumming Farmers Market on Saturday morning before the rain rolls in

NHL franchise bid could cost Forsyth County investors $2 billion
The price tag for bringing the NHL's 33rd franchise to Forsyth County has reportedly reached $2 billion, nearly double the combined cost of the league's two most recent expansion teams. Developer Vernon Krause of Krause Sports and Entertainment confirmed his group is still negotiating with the NHL and believes they can raise the money. The Gathering at South Forsyth, a $3 billion mixed-use development anchored by an 18,500-seat arena near GA-400, remains the centerpiece of the pitch. A rival bid from Alpharetta's North Point Mall site sits just six miles south.
Commission approves $48K parking gate for Mary Alice Park
Visitors to Mary Alice Park on Lake Lanier will soon encounter a new parking gate system after the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved nearly $48,000 for the upgrade. Parks Director Kirk Franz told commissioners the county currently loses 25–50% of parking fee payments at the popular lakeside park. The new system will function like a parking deck, drivers take a ticket upon entry and pay before leaving via an app with QR code functionality. Annual pass holders will have a dedicated entrance. The county expects to recoup the investment during summer 2026.
Guthrie's closes only Forsyth County restaurant
Guthrie's, the beloved chicken fingers chain, has shuttered its only Forsyth County location. The closure was reported by the Forsyth County News and adds to a wave of restaurant changes across the county. The chain, known for its simple menu of chicken tenders, coleslaw, toast, and signature sauce, has maintained a loyal following since arriving in the area. No official reason for the closure has been announced. The news comes even as other national chains like Trader Joe's eye openings in the south Forsyth market.
