Good morning, Forsyth County.

St. Patrick’s Day is almost here, bringing with it the annual mix of green outfits, questionable festive decisions, and people suddenly feeling extra lucky because they found a good parking spot. It is also the time of year when everyone starts acting at least a little bit Irish for a day, restaurants start pushing anything with corned beef on it, and somebody you know is almost certainly dusting off a shirt they only wear once a year.

But real luck is a little more practical. It is opening your inbox and getting a quick, useful rundown of what is happening around town without having to dig for it yourself. So before the shamrocks, celebrations, and harmless bad decisions fully take over the week, here is your latest Forsyth Flyer to help keep you in the loop.

THE DIGEST

Haw Creek Elementary teacher named 2026 Teacher of the Year

Terri Barrilleaux from Haw Creek Elementary has been named Forsyth County Schools' 2026 Teacher of the Year, marking the first time an educator from the school has received the district's highest teaching honor. Barrilleaux was announced as the winner at the Celebration of Excellence on Friday, March 13, where Superintendent Mitch Young presented the award. She was selected from a field of five finalists representing schools across the district. The annual event recognizes outstanding educators and support staff who go above and beyond for the county's 54,000-plus students.

County commissioners approve warehouse complex off GA 400, nix data center option

Three warehouses proposed off Ga. 400 cleared the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners after neighbors pushed back on the project's original scope and potential uses. The commission approved the warehouse development but excluded data center use from the final plan, responding directly to community concerns about the scale of the project. The decision reflects ongoing tensions between commercial development and residential quality of life as Forsyth County continues to attract large-scale industrial interest along the GA 400 corridor.

Forsyth 911 Center Introduces New Community Feedback Tool

Forsyth County’s 911 Center is introducing a modern way to connect with the community starting next week. The department is set to launch PowerEngage, an innovative feedback tool designed to enhance public safety services through direct communication. Under this new system, residents who place non-life-threatening 911 calls may receive a brief text message survey shortly after their interaction. While participation is entirely voluntary, the data gathered from these quick responses is vital for the agency's continued development.

Once a resident submits their feedback, the results are displayed on a real-time monitor within the dispatch center. This transparency allows dispatchers and supervisors to immediately see how they are performing. It serves as both a training opportunity to identify areas for improvement and a morale booster to celebrate excellence on the front lines. By implementing this technology, Forsyth County aims to strengthen the bond between emergency responders and the citizens they protect. This initiative ensures that local voices play an active role in shaping the future of emergency communications and service quality across the county.

THANKS!

Before you go, a quick favor:

If the Forsyth Flyer has helped you stay in the loop, please share it with one person in Forsyth County. The Flyer grows best the old-fashioned way, one neighbor telling another, and every new reader helps make this a better source for local news and community updates.

And if you know something we should know, send it in. A new shop opening, road construction, a local event, or anything else people around town are talking about, just hit reply. Many of the best tips we get come directly from readers, and that is a big part of what makes this newsletter useful.

Thanks for reading the Forsyth Flyer. Have a great week, and I will see you in the next issue.
