In partnership with

Good morning, Forsyth County.

One of the reasons I started the Forsyth Flyer earlier this year was a simple observation: most of us can name what's happening on the other side of the country but couldn't tell you what's being built two miles from our own front door. Our existing news infrastructure has trained us to look outward. To scroll past the local for the national, to trade what's relevant for what's loud.

But here's the thing: national news makes us spectators. Local news gives us agency. You can't vote on a CNN segment, but you can show up to a county commission meeting. You can't influence a policy debate in Washington, but you can walk into a town hall on Highway 9 and make your voice heard. The closer the news is to home, the more power you actually have to do something about it. That's the bet behind the Forsyth Flyer. That a county growing as fast as this one deserves a place where residents can stay informed about the decisions, the openings, the closings, and the stories that shape daily life right here. Not somewhere else. Here. Home.

GA 400 Express Lanes construction to begin in Forsyth County in April

Forsyth County drivers should prepare for major changes along GA 400 as GDOT begins heavy construction on the SR 400 Express Lanes project in April. Initial work will focus on the stretch between McGinnis Ferry Road and McFarland Parkway. Residents can expect construction equipment, phased traffic shifts, and new work zones along the 16-mile corridor. GDOT is also launching a 24/7 SR 400 Incident Response Unit to assist motorists and manage traffic during construction. The unit will complement the existing HERO program.

New Fleet Addition: Cumming PD Acquires Three Patrol Units

The City of Cumming Police Department is officially expanding its fleet after a unanimous vote by the City Council last week. The department is set to receive three new Dodge Durangos, a purchase totaling approximately $206,000. The price tag includes full outfitting for patrol duty, featuring emergency lighting, prisoner cages, and integrated radio systems. One of the most interesting details for taxpayers is the funding source: rather than drawing from the city’s general budget, the purchase is being funded entirely through the City of Cumming Police Foundation. Chief PJ Girvin noted that these vehicles are essential for supporting officers in safely and effectively serving the community. Residents can expect to see these new units on the road in the coming months as they are delivered and deployed.

Forsyth County Moves Admin Offices to Freedom Park

Starting Monday, March 30, Forsyth County is officially centralizing its government operations. Over a dozen departments including Planning, Water & Sewer, and Business Licensing are moving from the old 110 E. Main Street building to the brand-new Freedom Park Administration Campus at 2435 Freedom Parkway. The 135,000-square-foot facility is designed as a "one-stop shop," consolidating services that were previously scattered across rented offices. While the move streamlines daily business for residents, there is one major exception: due to a 19th-century state law requiring official business to be conducted within the "county seat," all Board of Commissioners meetings and public hearings will remain at the old Main Street location for the foreseeable future.
