TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Forsyth County.

You probably noticed winter decided to make one last stand. With a cold weather advisory in effect and temps dipping into the low 20s overnight, it's the kind of morning that makes you appreciate a hot cup of coffee and a warm kitchen.

On a warmer note, our libraries are loaded this week. Mark Warren is visiting for back-to-back programs on wild edible plants and survival skills, and there's a forensic science lecture that sounds genuinely fascinating. Plus, if you've been thinking about getting more civically involved, there's a candidate forum at Crooked Culture Brewing Thursday evening that will provide a great opportunity to learn who is running for office.

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution dedicating a portion of Pilgrim Mill Road as the "SPC Zachary Evan Steele Memorial Road." Steele, a North Forsyth High School graduate and Georgia Army National Guard member, passed away on July 22, 2025, in a car accident while on active duty. Colleagues from his local armory attended the Feb. 19 meeting in uniform, and his parents, Jason and Mary Steele, accepted a dedication plaque from District 1 Commissioner Kerry Hill. The designated roadway extends from Bronze Oak Way and Aquatic Circle to Pilgrim Lake Drive.

Deputies bust heavy equipment theft ring in Forsyth County

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office broke up a heavy equipment theft ring after receiving a tip from the Georgia Department of Public Safety. On Feb. 18, deputies intercepted a suspect who had taken a taxi from Atlanta and directed a tow truck driver, unaware the job was illegitimate, to load a stolen skid-steer. Antonio Dozier, 21, of Conley was arrested and charged with felony theft by taking and loitering and prowling. He is being held without bond. The investigation into the broader theft ring remains ongoing.
