Good morning, Forsyth County.

I hope you all had an incredible Easter weekend. Mine was full of the good stuff, probably more cookies, cake, and chocolate bunnies than I should have eaten, but that is what the gym is for today, right?

I had friends and family over at the house, enjoyed the beautiful spring weather, and just spent time together without rushing through it. Honestly, weekends like that are a good reminder that some of the best moments are the simplest ones. Good food, good company, and a chance to slow down long enough to actually enjoy it all. In a world that always feels like it is moving too fast, hitting pause and reconnecting with the people around you feels pretty refreshing.

Commissioners green-light $44.6 million plan for Polo Fields Park

Forsyth County will transform Polo Fields Park in west Forsyth following the Board of Commissioners' approval of a $44.6 million master plan at its April 1 meeting. The park, currently underutilized, will receive a variety of new amenities shaped by citizen input. The investment reflects the county's push to expand parks infrastructure as Forsyth's population, now around 280,000, continues to grow. No construction timeline has been announced, but the approval moves the project from planning to implementation. West Forsyth residents have been among those calling for expanded recreation options in their part of the county.

Georgia budgets $2 million to tackle Lake Lanier's drinking water odor

Local Kroger stores across Forsyth County partnered with community volunteers last weekend to collect food for students who rely on school meals during the academic year. The drive targeted food-insecure families ahead of spring break, when access to regular meals can become a challenge for children out of the classroom. Multiple Kroger locations participated in the effort, collecting donations from shoppers to help fill the gap. The initiative reflects a growing focus on childhood hunger in one of metro Atlanta's most affluent (but not immune) communities.

DAR chapter gives Braille flags to four Forsyth County schools

Four Forsyth County schools received Braille American flags last week from the Chestatee River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, part of a nationwide effort tied to America's 250th anniversary. The Braille flags — designed for students with vision impairments — were presented at schools including Forsyth Central High School, where DAR Chapter Regent Perrie Tucker and flag committee members joined principals and staff for the ceremony. The donation is part of the DAR's America 250 project, which aims to place tactile flags in schools across the country to ensure all students can experience the symbol of their nation.
