THE DIGEST
Goodson Drug Co. Returns to its Roots in Downtown Cumming
A piece of local history is making a grand comeback this month as Goodson Drug Co. prepares to celebrate its grand reopening week in the heart of downtown Cumming. A fixture of the community for generations, the independent pharmacy has completed its transition back to its historic footprint, offering a blend of modern healthcare services and "old-school" hometown charm. The reopening is a significant milestone for the downtown revitalization effort, bringing a vital local business back to the city center where it can serve as both a healthcare hub and a community anchor. Owners and staff are inviting residents to join in the festivities, which include special promotions and a first look at the updated space designed to honor the pharmacy’s deep legacy while providing enhanced services for today’s patients.
Residential Development Moratorium Extended Through June 2026
In a move to ensure that local infrastructure can keep pace with rapid population growth, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners recently voted to extend the Residential Application Moratorium until June 2, 2026. This extension pauses the acceptance of new applications for residential rezonings and land use map amendments, giving county planners and elected officials additional time to refine the Unified Development Code (UDC) and complete essential infrastructure assessments. The board highlighted the necessity of this pause to protect the "quality of life" for current residents, ensuring that schools, roads, and public safety services aren't overwhelmed by unchecked development. While the moratorium remains in place, the county will focus on updating zoning standards to better reflect the long-term vision for Forsyth's residential landscapes.
The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners and the Board of Education have officially entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) this month to share fueling infrastructure for official county vehicles and school buses. This collaborative effort allows both agencies to utilize existing fueling sites more efficiently, reducing the need for duplicate facilities and lowering overall maintenance costs for taxpayers. By leveraging shared resources, the county aims to improve logistics for its growing fleet. Some of these include emergency response vehicles and the hundreds of buses serving Forsyth County Schools. District officials noted that this partnership not only maximizes the utility of current assets but also ensures that critical public services remain resilient and well-fueled as the county continues to expand.
