TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Forsyth County.
I hope you spent some time outdoors this weekend. The spring weather was spectacular. I managed to get out with family and friends to soak up every bit of that sunshine. The only downside was looking at my ever-growing list of outdoor projects.
Between the yard work and the house projects I’ve been putting off since last fall, I’m honestly surprised the team at the Home Depot hasn’t offered me a job yet. I have spent enough time in those aisles lately to qualify. If you spot me wandering the garden center again this week, just know I’m doing my best to keep up with the season. I’m also looking forward to the community events filling up our local calendar. There is a lot happening around Forsyth County right now!

THE DIGEST
Historic 1940s schoolhouse may become county's 30th polling location
A piece of Forsyth County history is getting a second life. The County Commission is considering converting the Matt Schoolhouse at 5710 Namon Wallace Road into its 30th voting precinct, which would reassign roughly 4,600 voters to the new location. Named after Matison Martin, the 1940s-era schoolhouse once held 75 students on slab benches around an open fireplace. The county has invested about $4 million in renovations including roof replacement and environmental remediation. Beyond voting, the building could also serve as a community center and office space for Solid Waste Department staff.
Sheriff's Office seeks $2.7 million for school safety upgrades
More than 54,000 Forsyth County students could benefit from a major school safety technology push after the County Commission unanimously authorized the Sheriff's Office to seek $2.7 million in federal funding. The money would pay for advanced radios that combine traditional broadcasting with LTE and WiFi, critical for reliable communication inside thick-walled school buildings, along with camera software giving law enforcement real-time video access and drone capabilities. No local match is required. Schools Superintendent Mitch Young called the Sheriff's Office partnership a "game changer" for student safety across the district's 42 facilities.
GA 400 lane closures this week as express lanes project ramps up
Forsyth County commuters who use Georgia 400 should plan for delays this week. The Georgia Department of Transportation announced rolling lane and ramp closures affecting northbound ramps at Northridge Road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, with additional overnight closures on nearby cross streets. The work is part of the massive $4.6 billion express lanes project stretching 16 miles from North Springs MARTA Station to McFarland Parkway. The project is expected to be completed by 2031.
